take it away, mitchell…

So, you have heard the beginning of our story…. I had to ask her three times to even date me before she said she would. After that Maddie and I dated for two months and then we dated long distance for eight months. She decided to go on a study abroad to Israel and I waited. Then I waited another sixth months before she would talk about marriage. Through this long two-year relationship we went through some really tough times with family, school, and friends. These experiences allowed us to grow together and really become best friends. We can make it through anything. Ya, it was worth the two-year wait to finally be engaged to Madison. So with this story, it’s time to tell you of the Ultimate Triumph.

But you should know before this next part of the story begins… that I have been able to surprise Madison.

We decided to go hiking one day and after hiking for an hour I asked if we could go down this really pretty trail. At first, Madison did not want to but I convinced her… As we walked down the trail I kissed her on the cheek. Maddie randomly started telling me about when she was little and how her dad would kiss her on the cheek and tell her that she could not wipe his kisses away.

Me: “Well you can’t wipe my kisses away”

Maddie: “Ya I can” (with her sarcastic humor)

Me: “No you can’t because I am your….. boyfriend.”

She turned around, looked at me, and said, “Oh, I thought you were going to propose.”

As she turned back around I grabbed her by the hips and turned her back as I got one knee. I could feel a big grin on my face and her mouth was gaping in shock. I wish that I had got a picture of her face because she was really surprised. By the end of my romantic speech, I asked her:

Me: “Madison Malley, will you marry me?”

Maddie: “Yes!”

I slipped the ring on her hand and then stood up to give her a hug.

Maddie: “Mitch? I do not remember a thing you said. I didn’t even get to enjoy you on your knee. Do it again!”

Yep! She made me get down and do it again because she was so surprised she couldn’t listen. She still barely remembers what I said the second time but definitely more than the first. It was so perfect. I surprised her and it was just us enjoying the moment, even though it was super surreal.

I had to ask her three times for us to date, but this time I only knelt down twice….and she said yes both times.

I love her……..and she loves me.

cutest couple contest 2013 // jessica + travis // utah wedding photographer

we’ve finally made it to round two of our cutest couple contest, and i couldn’t be more excited about it! jessica + travis are our first couple, and they’d like to share a bit more about their love story! to help jessica + travis win free wedding portraits, comment on this blog post, “like” the post on facebook (as well as “liking” anna gleave photography), pin a photo from this website, or share one of anna gleave photography’s photos.
so without further ado… here’s jessica and travis’ love story from both of their perspectives!
Jessica:
Travis and I have known each other for over 7 years now. When I moved to Utah we were in the same ward and I remember the day I walked into my first Sundayschool class with my cousin. I remember seeing him, and thinking he was SO  good-looking. We were awkward little 15 year olds, and I refused to date before I turned 16, so nothing happened then and I became interested in other guys in high school. I totally hurt his feelings then and did again when I gave him a little bit of a chance again when I was 17. After that we were just friends. When we started hanging out and I realized I wanted to date him I was TERRIFIED of his reaction. So terrified that the night I told him I thought we should date I struggled between silence and stuttering for at least 45 minutes before I got out what I wanted to say. The best line from him in that conversation, “I don’t really believe you Jessica, because we have been through this before, but I am willing to try it” haha Good thing he gave me a second chance!!!

I love how helpful and fun Travis is! One of the first things I noticed about him as we started dating is that he is always the first to help with everything! He also makes me crack up basically all the time, which if you know me, isn’t super hard to do, but he is better than anyone else at just getting me. We could be doing the most boring task but he makes me laugh through it all haha He also is very good at calming me, I am a very Type A personality and am really good at filling my schedule until I physically can’t take on any more (for example: right now I am a full-time graduate student, have 2 jobs, am training for a half marathon…. and planning a wedding). He helps me to recognize what is important and necessary in my life.

Travis:

Jessica is the girl of my dreams 🙂 really she is the only girl that could ever make me shy and awkward.  I wanted to get to know her from the day we met.  I would even sit awkwardly with her and her two friends during lunch in high school just to try and sneak in a bit of conversation.  After she rejected me a second time I put up the necessary walls and tried to move on.  I dated a lot of other girls but I never could find that same spark that left me speechless and awkward.  After my mission I had gained a lot of additional confidence and had dated enough girls that I knew if I could get Jessica alone, i’d have a chance to charm her.  She was very good at inviting me to only group activities and the chance never seemed to come.  Finally one Saturday night we were both looking for something to do so we decided to hang out and she suggested a movie.  We were alone and the rest is history.

  • Pam Roos - Very cute couple! I am excited about this engagement! The pretty path they walked represents the path they will walk together in their marriage, it will have ups and downs, nice dry areas with flowers, birds and sunshine and some areas that are mired in thick gooey mud, other areas with thorny brambles or sharp rocks. I believe they will walk this path together, hand in hand or leaning on each other with the Lord as the third partner in their marriage and will make it through anything that comes their way.ReplyCancel

garrett + austen engagements // provo, ut // utah wedding photographer

when i moved back to byu in 2010, garrett was one of the first friends i made. i remember vividly that our first conversation was based entirely off of mario kart… and with a start like that, how could your friendship go wrong?!

i quickly discovered that garrett is one of the kindest people in the whole wide world. he’s incredibly supportive of those he loves, and it’s clear that beautiful austen is right at the top of the list of things he loves.  garrett and austen are high school sweethearts (this is eight years in the making, people!), and they’re finally making it officially this month in texas.

garrett is a semi-professional mountain biker and bike shop manager, and he’s passed his love for biking on to austen. so we decided that it’s absolutely crucial that we tie bikes into their engagements! garrett brought his beloved schwinn– along with her matching schwinn that he fixed up for her… so sweet! i loved their natural chemistry and how they laughed their ways through the whole session. waaaaaay too much fun!

congrats, austen + garrett! can’t wait to shoot your wedding in arlington next month! xo.

welcome! so happy to have you!

welp, after a few years of absolutely miserable attempts at blogging (and a few summer/springs/winters of globe trotting), i’m finally committed. that’s right… i’m going to blog my images (!!!), believe it or not.

after 3.5 years and over 50 weddings working as a destination wedding photographer (after starting as colorado portrait and wedding photographer) anna gleave photography is all in; i decided it was time to take my photography and business to the next level! i want to better show off my artwork, my beautiful clients, and the lovely events i’ve had the pleasure of shooting over the last few years. thinking through it all, it’s unreal… all of the beauty i’ve been lucky enough to shoot! how can one photographer be so lucky?

as part of my big business relaunch, i am rebranding and starting fresh in regards to several parts of my business. i just upgraded all of my equipment (can you say happy early christmas, anna?!), invested in some marketing, planned and executed several fall-themed stylized shoots, and am ready to channel my inner katy perry (yes, i just did) and rooooar.

so what are we waiting for?! let’s get going!!!

i may be re-posting some of my old shoots, but if you for-sure want a nice glance at some past work, you can still see it here.

and of course, you can always check out my travel photography and personal musings here:

who’s as excited as i am for the future?! let’s get shooting + exploring!

xo,

anna
